As Prince William's eldest son, Prince George is the heir to the throne and the 10-year-old already has his future mapped out for him as future King but for Charlotte and Louis, things are not so clear. He told well-wishers he had been really hoping for a girl and described her as "beautiful" as he added: "I am thrilled. I was hoping for a granddaughter – someone to look after me when I am very old."
Princess Anne is the current Princess Royal and has been since 1987, having been the late Queen's Elizabeth's only daughter out of her four children. "It is a title that remains for life, so Princess Charlotte will have to wait at least until the death of the current Princess Royal."However, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has questioned whether this would happen in the "modern era" and noted that the Princess may choose to become a "working woman" instead.
