King Charles will break tradition and deliver his Christmas Day speech from outside a royal residence for the first time in over a decade.
King Charles will deliver his highly anticipated King’s Speech on Christmas Day, marking his third such address since ascending the throne in 2022. This year, the speech will be recorded outside a royal residence for the first time in over a decade. Unlike previous years, King Charles recorded his message on December 11th at the Fitzrovia Chapel, a former chapel of the Middlesex Hospital that is now closed and demolished.
The last time a Christmas Day speech was filmed outside a royal residence was in 2006 when Queen Elizabeth visited Southwark Cathedral. The King’s Christmas speech will air at 3pm on Christmas Day on BBC, ITV, and Sky News, with radio broadcasts available on BBC Radio 4. Replays of the speech are also expected throughout the day. This year’s speech is anticipated to focus on the efforts of healthcare workers following the King’s cancer diagnosis and Britain’s community spirit in the aftermath of the Southport stabbings. It will also likely touch upon major events of the past year, including the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis
