The King's Speech is set to include several pieces of controversial legislation, from new oil drilling in the North Sea to fresh regulations for tech companies

Under the new system to be set out in legislation, the North Sea Transition Authority will be required to invite applications for new production license on an annual basis.

. The PM insists it’s essential to ensure the UK’s energy security, but many Tory MPs have criticised the decision.Under new legislation announced in Mr Sunak’s Conservative Party conference speech, the legal age for buying tobacco should rise every year.. Other measures which could be covered by the legislation include a new classification of “domestic murder” and new powers to search a properties if police have “reasonable proof” that a stole item is there.Measures on tougher sentencing and forcing criminals to appear in court have broad support across the party. But many of the measures giving police new powers are likely to be controversial both inside and outside Parliament.

The Bill, which reforms the existing Investigatory Powers Act, will also give the Home Office powers to force non-UK companies to comply with changes it wants them to make to security features.Tech companies are strongly opposed to the move, with Apple stating earlier this year that it would “serious and direct threat” to the security of user data and give the Home Secretary unnecessary power.

Ministers have long promised to change the controversial leasehold system, which has seen expensive fees imposed on homeowners. While reform of the system is welcome, Labour has questioned whether the changes go far enough. Campaigners have also called for the changes to be extended to include flats rather than just houses.on British roads, allowing autonomous vehicles to operate in the UK for the first time.
