A guest at Kings Island amusement park in the northern Cincinnati suburbs was hit by a roller coaster and taken to the hospital Wednesday, park officials saidMASON, Ohio - A guest at Kings Island was critically hurt after being struck by a roller coaster at the amusement park in the northern Cincinnati suburbs, according to Mason police and park officials.
It happened about 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the “Banshee,” the world’s longest steel inverted roller coaster that travels 68 mph and is 167 feet tall, according to Kings Island’s website. Mason police and fire crews were called to the park after receiving a report of a man “struck at 68 mph” by the roller coaster and suffering a “traumatic injury”, according to initial emergency dispatches.
First responders found a 38-year-old man inside the restricted area with a critical injury. He was transported to West Chester Hospital and then flown in a medical helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.The man “entered a restricted, fenced area of the Banshee roller coaster and is believed to have been struck by the ride,” Kings Island said in a statement Wednesday night to FOX19 NOW.
“The park’s safety and first aid personnel responded immediately to the situation and contacted local emergency responders. The guest was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The ride remains closed while local authorities and park personnel conduct an investigation. Kings Island’s focus continues to be on the welfare of the guest and his family.”Kings Island is located on 364 acres off Interstate 71 in Warren County.
