Jurgen Klopp has outlined why Alexis Mac Allister can continue at number six for Liverpool and what his players cannot afford to do when they return to Brighton on Sunday
Jurgen Klopp admits he has no idea in which position Alexis Mac Allister is best suited for Liverpool - but would have no qualms continuing the Argentine in defensive midfield on his return to Brighton.
But Klopp believes there remains plenty of time for Mac Allister to determine his ideal position at Anfield. "Because we defend more compact and better than in our bad phases last year, we have small spaces and then it is really good because he sees the situations really well and we have a really good footballer and it is really cool.
The Reds go into the weekend in better shape than in the New Year, standing just two points behind leaders Manchester City after their 19-game unbeaten run was ended in controversial fashion at Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday. And Klopp said: "Whichever options you have, if you play like you played last year you will get a massive knock again. That is how it is. We should play better and I think we can play better and we have to make sure, that is the first step.
