Jurgen Klopp's answer wasn't what Steven Gerrard wanted to hear LFC
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insisted there is more juice left in the tank – much to Steven Gerrard’s possible disappointment.
The German took charge of his 1,000th game as a manager when the Reds faced Chelsea on Saturday lunch-time, a career that has spanned across Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. It is his seventh year at Anfield and, despite some suggestions that he might wrap up his time at the club soon, Klopp insisted he has at least 10 more years left.
He said on BT Sport: “My motivation is no problem. I am a bit like Obelix, who fell in the… you know Asterix and Obelix? Ah, you don’t know it, forget it.” Both BT Sport host Linsey Hipgrave and guest Rio Ferdinand looked dumbfounded by Klopp’s attempt at a joke, while his next sentence might have rankled for Gerrard.Stood next to the 55-year-old on the pitch during the interview was Gerrard, on BT Sport as a guest and still harbouring ambitions to one day coach his boyhood club Liverpool.
It means Gerrard might have to wait a while longer before getting the chance to coach Liverpool – though he might have to rebuild his managerial reputation in that time.Jürgen Klopp reflects ahead of his 1000th game in management.
