The council have now started a recruitment process and hope to appoint a replacement before the end of 2024
Knowsley Council 's long-serving chief executive, Mike Harden, has announced his retirement after ten years in the job.
The news comes just one week after Knowsley Council won the prestigious 'Local Authority of the Year' award at this year's Municipal Journal Awards. A panel of nine judges decided the winner and said Knowsley was ‘visibly making a difference to the area it serves’. Mr Harden was appointed as chief executive having previously held the role of deputy chief executive and various director level positions in finance, corporate resources, and regeneration and economic development.
During Mr Harden's tenure, he has overseen a variety of regeneration projects including the redevelopment of Kirkby Town Centre and the creation of Prescot's hugely popular Shakespeare North Playhouse.
