KSAT announced in May that Degollado and five other veteran on-air personalities would retire from the station amid buyouts offered by Graham Media Group.

As 40 years of telling San Antonio 's stories at KSAT-TV comes to an end, reporter Jessie Degollado sat down with colleagues to reflect on her time at the news station. In a tribute to Degollado aired Tuesday, the local legend said that she never envisioned leaving the station when she started at KSAT in 1984. 'When I walked in that door, I didn't see an end in sight,' Degollado told fellow reporter Erica Hernandez . 'I thought I'd be here forever.

'I thought, 'I'm never going to be on television. Those TV people are so full of hairspray.'' But after an 'overwhelming' first day at KSAT under former news director Jim Boyle, she fell in love with the craft and decided to make it her home in order to be close to her parents in Laredo. Since then, she has become a fixture in San Antonio news, especially when it came to representing Latinas onscreen.
