Kurt Cobain was a ‘lovely and warm genius’ says Oasis’ record exec on Nirvana star’s 25th death anniversary
Kurt Cobain has been remembered as a ‘lovely and warm’ person as fans around the world unite toTim Abbot, managing director of Oasis’ record label Creation Records, recalls meeting Cobain and his Nirvana bandmates, including Dave Grohl, several times before his death.
‘Kurt was a lovely guy. I went to see him on New Year’s Eve 1993 in LA on the In Utero Tour, there were about 18,000 people in there and he sang to you personally.‘The thing about Kurt is he’s got time for you. When he looked at you, he looked at you in the eyes with warmth. But when he sang to 18,000 people he sang to you, and he looked you in the eyes.
At the time when Nirvana were pioneering the grunge scene, Oasis were reigniting the rock n’ roll genre on this side of the pond. The music executive explained: ‘I don’t think people in the Oasis camp appreciated, until after, just how great he was. I think what changed that was the MTV Unplugged.
