Kyle and San Marcos agree to a 3-year water sharing deal, allowing San Marcos to provide Kyle with up to 500 acre-feet of water annually from 2024-2026.

The City of Kyle’s water utilities department says due to the ongoing historical drought across Central Texas, the city expects the need for additional water during the next three calendar years. Entering this agreement will keep Kyle from exceeding its limit with the EAA. “San Marcos has not grown as quickly as they were anticipated to grow. And we have grown much more quickly than we were anticipated to grow,” Harris said.Water shared under this agreement with only come from Kyle’s existing EAA well numbers W100-896, W100-897, and W100-960.
The San Marcos City Council voted unanimously to approve sharing water with the City of Kyle, but not without concerns from Place 4 City Councilmember Shane Scott. “Can we ask them to mirror the same restrictions information, and commercialism enforcement as we do?” Scott asked during the meeting.
