Marcel Desailly believes it’s too hard to pick between his World Cup winning France side and the 2022 squad FRA FIFAWorldCup

Marcel Desailly believes it’s too hard to pick between his World Cup winning France side and the 2022 squad going for gold in Qatar.

The current crop are attempting to make history by becoming the first side to win back-to-back tournaments since Brazil in 1962.But former Les Bleus star Desailly, right, who played with Zidane and Robert Pires, says it’s ‘impossible’ to choose who’s better out of his 1998 winners and the current squad

And Desailly thinks that like Zinedine Zidane in 1998, Kylian Mbappe can bring Les Bleus that extra bit of magic they need. He also believes the France star, who will be 24 next week, will be itching to use the game as a way to boost his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, just as his compatriot“Well Zidane was more mature,” the centre-back told talkSPORT. “Remember Zidane was 26 so it’s a bit different to compare.Zidane scored twice in the 1998 final as Brazil were brushed aside 3-0, though Desailly was also sent off.

Mbappe scored in the 2018 final and is going for the Golden Boot as well this time around, with five so far.
