According to a press release from the brand, the dress shape was inspired by “many of the subjects' classic gowns in Cecil Beaton's photography.
Considering Jenner's sister Kim Kardashian made so many headlines for her own Marilyn Monroe debacle at the Met Gala, it's an interesting choice!
