The Pride of Britain Awards saw a host of A-listers left in tears as they honoured the UK's unsung heroes, with Kym Marsh overcome with emotion as she thanked a midwife
Waterloo Road's Kym Marsh was brought to tears as she presented the incredible midwife Agnes Nisbett with an award at the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards this week. The annual event, which celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this week, recognised the UK's fundraisers, awe-inspiring children, community heroes, young achievers and brave individuals with well-deserved awards.
The 87-year-old experienced the heartbreak of stillbirth in 1973 when she was a young midwife and went on to provide a sanctuary for women who had experienced the same thing. After losing her son John many years ago, Agnes returned to work determined to make a change, having no keepsakes of him. The entire room was moved to tears by Agnes' story, with host Carol Vorderman announcing that 'two women grateful to you' would present her award. Kym Marsh and Sue Johnston were visibly emotional as they thanked Agnes for her years of hard work, reports the Mirror.
The beloved actress, now 48 and a mum-of-three, and her former husband Jamie Lomas experienced deep sorrow when they lost their newborn boy in 2009, who was born prematurely at just 21 weeks. Opening up about this agonising part of her life, Kym has said, "It was the worst thing that's ever happened to me. I was absolutely devastated. It's the most painful thing I've ever felt.
