The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is investigating a case of hepatitis A involving an employee at a grocery store in Beverly Hills.

Anyone who purchased products from the seafood counter between April 20 and May 13 is urged to get a hepatitis vaccination if they are not already immune."Receiving vaccination as soon as possible after exposure could help reduce the risk of developing hepatitis A infection," according to a statement from the department. "Residents should contact their local pharmacy or medical provider for the vaccine.

The hepatitis A virus is found in blood and stool of people who are infected, and homeless people tend to be at higher risk because they often have limited access to handwashing and toilet facilities, according to the Department of Public Health. Health officials were also working with healthcare providers to ensure they are vigilant for possible new cases, and with organizations that provide services to the homeless.
