City strikes down appeal and permits performances at local Mediterranean restaurant
The La Mesa City Council last week voted to uphold a Planning Commission decision granting a permit for entertainment at a local Mediterranean restaurant following an appeal hearing. The Charcoal House — a restaurant located in a commercial zone just north of Interstate 8 at 9566 Murray Drive — was issued a conditional-use permit in July 2021 to expand and continue performances within the building.
' During last week's meeting, Wyer said he has observed customers parking in nearby red fire zones, issues with excessive noise and the smoking of both cigarettes and hookah indoors. He also showed two images that appear to show hookah waterpipes in what appeared to be Instagram posts tagging the restaurant, which he snapped screenshots of on Dec. 17 and Feb. 15. 'The live entertainment is what's causing significant problems to the neighbors,' Wyer said.
