County convert the Puente Hills landfill into a large park.
Money is a big one when talking about the project as a whole, since the funding will only cover a portion of costs. The county will also have to mitigate land movement, as the 150 million pounds of trash settle over time. As the refuse degrades, it'll also produce methane that needs to be piped out from below ground. The first phase of the project, which includes the construction of an environmental justice center, is expected to be completed by 2027, according to the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department.
