Northern Territory voters have expressed their anger after receiving unsolicited text messages from Labor claiming the Country Liberal Party would scrap plans to build houses in remote communities. Labor has again been accused of running a dirty tricks campaign in the Northern Territory after it spammed thousands of voters with unsolicited text messages ahead of Saturday's election.
"The CLP will have to cut nurses, teachers and other jobs to pay for the $52m hole in the budget from the harebrained tax scheme," one of the messages said. One constituent, who said he did not support either major party, was furious after receiving one of the messages.“Why is it that Territory Labor can text me, but I cannot text them?” he said.“They called me too. I’m not happy as I don’t want to be on any public call lists, I don’t sign up to any, and I sure as hell don’t give out my number.”Chief Minister Eva Lawler has defended the unsolicited messages.
