"And I think the photo that is in the booklet at the front page today, captures Simon like a photo I have never seen … just extraordinary."Mr Crean's father Frank Crean was also a Labor MP, and Mr Albanese said his youth was spent rubbing shoulders with Labor giants like Gough Whitlam and Arthur Calwell.He lauded Mr Crean's strong principles, including his opposition to the 2003 Iraq War and his challenging of then-president George W Bush.

Also among those in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, Labor Party President Wayne Swan, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.Former prime minister Kevin Rudd called Simon Crean a "courageous son" of the Labor movement.
