Two Labor MPs have broken ranks on the Albanese government’s 60-day prescriptions policy, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“Government backbenchers are increasingly on edge, even to the point of an out revolt by some who don’t think the Health Minister Mark Butler has really thought this through and they want action,” she said.

Tasmanian Labor Senator Helen Polley has called for an “open dialogue” with the Pharmacy Guild. Meanwhile, Macarthur MP Dr Mike Freelander has called for pharmacists to be adequately compensated for the change. “The fact that the government still hasn’t done the modelling, on a policy it announced about two months ago now, shows that this really is amateur-hour stuff,” Ms Credlin said.

“My advice to the government: back down quickly, admit you’ve got it wrong, and fix it before it’s too late.”

Former Labor leader Simon Crean was successful at ‘holding the blowtorch’ to governmentIt was a sad day with the passing of former Labor leader and minister Simon Crean, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. “As Opposition leader at the turn of the century, he did well prosecuting the Children Overboard scandal,” Mr Clennell said. “He successfully prosecuted the scandal around then Governor-General Peter Hollingworth but his loss in the Cunningham by-election to the Greens pretty much saw him off. “He was not a popular Opposition leader, but he was successful at holding the blowtorch to a government.”
