Sky News host Chris Kenny has warned the “alarming” cost of the NDIS could overwhelm future budgets.

The NDIS financial stability report in November said the annual cost of the scheme will hit $89.4 billion in 2032, “with more than one million Australians expected to be on the program”.

“This is a massive social, health, budgetary and political issue, and it is only getting worse by the day,” he said.

‘Stark’: Bill Shorten ‘hopelessly out of his depth’ in NDIS spending spiral‘Stark’: Bill Shorten ‘hopelessly out of his depth’ in NDIS spending spiralNDIS Minister Bill Shorten is “hopelessly out of his depth” as the Labor government is sending two “very stark and different messages” on the sustainability of the NDIS funding, says Shadow NDIS Minister Michael Sukkar. His comments come after this week’s financial review reported the NDIS cost is growing at a faster rate than any other area of spending outside of interest on the national debt. “On one hand, Bill Shorten before the election, said there was no sustainability issues with the NDIS – no plan would go backwards under his watch,” Mr Sukkar told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “Yet since the election we see a concerted effort from the government to continue to highlight the lack of sustainability, in their view, of the NDIS –and we saw the budget blown on the NDIS in October of $8.8 billion. “Yesterday we see reports in the papers that we’re now seeing an additional $5.7 billion blowout in the scheme – that’s a huge number to have blown out since October. “We’re seeing the government try to walk back the assurances that they gave Australians before the election – on one hand you’ve got a minister saying one thing, a Treasurer and a Prime Minister saying something else – and quite frankly the numbers which paint a different picture as well.”

His comments come after this week’s financial report revealed the NDIS is set to blow a $5.7 billion hole in the federal budget. “In the end for every dollar that’s used for … sexual services or for a psychic, is a dollar that’s not going where it needs to and that’s helping Australians with a disability,” Mr Sukkar told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

Prince Harry is someone who ‘runs towards the media’Prince Harry is someone who ‘runs towards the media’Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny says Prince Harry is a guy 'who runs towards the media' rather than away from it. Mr Kenny's remarks come as Prince Harry is in court in the United Kingdom for a hearing into a privacy case against Associated Newspapers. 'Prince Harry's actually in London at the moment ... he's there to get involved in this court case,' Mr Kenny said. 'Although, he's a guy, I think, who runs towards the media rather than away from them.' Mr Kenny also discussed the claim King Charles is apparently 'too busy' to catch up with Harry during his UK visit.
