Keir Starmer and his party cannot take Humza Yousaf's troubles for granted, a shadow cabinet member saidfor granted and expect it to translate into major gains in Scotland at the general election, senior Labour figures have warned.
Sir Keir’s party in Scotland returned just one MP to Westminster at the 2019 election, and a YouGov poll this month was only the first since the 2014 independence referendum to put Labour ahead of the SNP for general election voting intention. “However, there’s no denying this is good news for Labour, but we really can’t take anything for granted.”
A party source said the no confidence vote “does no harm” to Labour’s chances of taking seats from the SNP – even if Mr Yousaf does survive next week.
