'I'm not in the Labour Party because I hate Conservatives' the Paymaster General says

ExclusiveJonathan Ashworth MP, Shadow Paymaster General, delivers his speech on the final day of the Labour Party conference Labour has become the natural home for Tory voters because of a shift to the right by the Conservatives, one of the party’s top campaign strategists has argued.that Sir Keir Starmer’s cautious policy programme was “ambitious” but would not scare off voters with “big grand promises which turn into pipe dreams”.

And he played down the influence that the remaining rump of pro-Corbyn Labour would have on a government led by Sir Keir.“I keep pointing out examples of extremism in the Tory party,” he said. “People who want to get rid of Rishi Sunak. And then people keep saying to me, ‘Yeah, but what about these people and what they’re doing?’ They’re not here. They’re not doing anything. Keir Starmer is in charge of this party.

“We have got to to look at the way in which this money is spent. We have got to look at reforms. And one of the jobs that I’m now tasked with is looking at how we reform government and how we get a better service for the citizen.”
