Dawn Butler video: Labour MP accuses police of racial profiling after she’s stopped in ‘nice car’ in East London
LABOUR MP Dawn Butler has accused the Metropolitan Police of racial profiling after cops stopped her in a "nice car" yesterday.
She was left "irritated and angry" by the stop and search and accused the Metropolitan Police of being "institutionally racist". She added: "If you are profiling people who are driving a certain type of car that's an inappropriate reason to stop anyone and if you are profiling people because of the colour of their skin that's an inappropriate reason."Labour MP Dawn Butlershe was "angry and annoyed" about what happened and claimed the Metropolitan Police has a "cancerous" problem with institutional racism.
Chief Superintendent Roy Smith tweeted that he had spoken to Ms Butler over the phone and said "she has given me a very balanced account of the incident"."We are listening to those concerns and Dawn is quite entitled to raise them." "Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, it quickly became apparent that the registration had been entered incorrectly and was registered to the driver in London.
