Kim Johnson made the remark during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday and was asked by Sir Keir Starmer to withdraw it, his spokesman said.

She added:"Can the prime minister tell us how he is challenging what Amnesty and other human rights organisations are referring to as an apartheid state?"The remark was deemed"unacceptable" by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, his spokesperson said, and it is understood the party's chief whip told her to withdraw it.
"And while there are far-right elements in the government I recognise that the use of the term in this context was wrong."
