Labour MP Neil Duncan-Jordan has urged the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to reconsider its decision to exclude Attendance Allowance recipients from Winter Fuel Payments. The change, announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, means only pensioners receiving means-tested benefits like Pension Credit will qualify.
The Department for Work and Pensions has been urged by Labour MP Neil Duncan-Jordan to consider adding Attendance Allowance to the list of benefits that qualify for Winter Fuel Payments . Following the rule change, announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves on July 29, Winter Fuel Payments will only be issued to State Pensioners in receipt of a means-tested benefit such as Pension Credit, Tax Credits or Universal Credit .
However, she also explained that due to “substantial pressures faced by the public finances this year and next, the Government has had to make hard choices to bring the public finances back under control”. Latest Attendance Allowance News She also highlighted the Labour Government’s pledge to honour the State Pension Triple Lock for the next five years, which is forecast to increase pensioner incomes by around £1,700.
They may also get this extra Pension Credit if they are entitled to Carer’s Allowance but are not being paid it, or being paid it at a lower amount than normal, because they are being paid a higher amount by another, income-related benefit such as the State Pension - more commonly referred to as an underlying entitlement.
