EXCLUSIVE: MSPs were asked not support an SNP motion, even though the move is supported by trade unions.
Scottish Labour has been criticised after MSPs were urged not to back calls for the devolution of employment legislation.
“What we want to do when we get into government is deliver those reforms right across the UK, and through that UK-wide legislation that obviously benefits Scotland, but then what I’d be interested in is the phase 2 of that [which] is how we entrench those rights here in Scotland, and that can be done through devolution.”
The Labour amendment is understood to refer to the actions of a Labour Government in its first 100 days before “looking at how those rights can be strengthened by devolution”.One senior Labour figure said the party was at odds with the Labour movement on the issue, as the STUC strongly supports devolution in this area.
"It's no wonder the public can't trust Labour to stand up for Scotland when every day shows clearly that it's their Westminster bosses that pull the strings."
