Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves said the party’s green spending would “ramp up” over time rather thangrowing scrutiny of Labour’s plans to increase spendingMs Reeves told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that she cannot give a “final set of numbers” until the Government has laid out its own long-term spending plans.
Writing for The Times, she insisted the full amount would start to be spent by the second half of the next Parliament if Labour were in charge – suggesting it would come into effect from early 2027. But shortly after her speech inflation and interest rates started to rise, casting doubt on the UK Government’s ability to borrow more without causing a market crash.
