Michael Shanks will be the next MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West after turning the South Lanarkshire constituency red following a mammoth campaign lasting months.He overcame a 5,230 majority won by the disgraced former SNP MP Margaret Ferrier at the 2019 general election.Fourteen candidates vied to replace Ferrier, who was axed by voters after breaching covid rules, but the contest was a two horse race between Shanks and the SNP’s Katy Loudon.
