Record View says cutting corners cannot be an option when it comes to food safety.
It is deeply concerning that a quarter of councils don’t have enough food safety officers. For there to be a 20 per cent shortfall in the number of officers across most of Scotland’s councils is deeply worrying.
Food safety officers play a vital role in making sure that businesses are selling legal products and are meeting health and safety rules. With only five per cent of food safety officers under 35, and nearly half of councils having an average age of higher than 50, the problem is only going to get worse.
