LaFrance’s campaign on Tuesday said it was “statistically impossible” for Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson to win at this point in the vote count.
Suzanne LaFrance celebrates early positive results at her election night party at Williwaw, May 14, 2024. released Friday, LaFrance had 53.5% of the vote, and was leading incumbent Mayor Dave Bronson by 5,487 votes out of a total of 78,476 ballots counted so far.
“I’m grateful for all the support and the clear outcome of this election,” LaFrance said in a statement. “As I’ve said throughout the campaign, local government isn’t about left or right. It’s about coming together to get things done. I’m excited about what we can do in this next chapter for Anchorage.”
LaFrance, a registered nonpartisan, will be the first woman elected mayor of Anchorage. She chaired the Assembly during the first two years of Bronson’s term. LaFrance said in the statement that she and her team expect to share more about the transition “over the coming days and weeks.”in April out of a field of ten candidates, winning 36% of the vote. But she did not receive the required 45% of the vote to win outright, triggering a runoff between LaFrance and Bronson, who received the second-most votes.
