Beauty and wellness editor Laura Mulley says this is one of the best hotels in Cumbria for a weekend getaway – it features luxury rooms and a five-star spa in the perfect location
In my job I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some of the world’s most exotic locations, yet one place that I revisit every year is the Lake District. I love nothing more than to spend the day hiking across Cumbria’s famously spectacular scenery before finishing at an old-fashioned country pub, and with a lovely hotel to come back to.
Brimstone does everything else a little differently too. There’s no reception desk; instead one of the establishment’s friendly hosts greets you, takes you to your room and explains where everything is. Instead of a bar there’s a ‘reading room’ filled with complimentary wine, drinks and snacks. It’s a relaxed atmosphere without any stuffiness, and you’ll quickly make yourself at home.
The easy 45-minute walk along the Elter Water is also not to be missed, and worth it alone for a stopoff at Chesters By The River, a popular vegetarian bakery serving delicious sweet and savoury treats.
