Work will include replacing roundabouts with signalled crossings at either end of Lambeth Bridge.

Work to improve safety at one of London's most dangerous junctions is due to begin at the end of the month.Waterproofing and repairs will also be carried out in an attempt to prolong the life of the Grade II-listed structure.

The action will require a series of full and partial closures on the bridge, Transport for London said., Lambeth Bridge's northern junction is the most dangerous in the capital in terms of cycle collisions. From 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2024, cyclists were involved in 22 of the 31 collisions that happened at the roundabouts there.

A southbound closure is scheduled for traffic between 10 February and 15 December 2025, but pedestrian and cyclist access will be largely maintained. It will connect to the existing Cycleway 8 route on the north side of the bridge and Cycleway 5 on the south. Roads and other river crossings in the surrounding area are expected to be busier than usual, TfL said, and people should consider alternative routes.
