The joint initiative between the Scottish Government and the SFA is helping to alleviate child poverty

Motherwell FC Community Trust and Blantyre Soccer Academy have been awarded more than £246,000 to help alleviate child poverty.

"When schools finish at 3pm it doesn’t fit in with working life for a lot of people, so we deliver sessions from 3pm to 5pm. And with the six-week summer break coming up we have free places at our summer camp at Fir Park. “Back in the day kids played football in the street, they can’t do that now. They come here and we let them play. We don’t coach them and have them dribbling round cones.“The camps run from 9am until 3pm and we keep our costs as low as we can, and no one knows who is paying or not.

He said: “We know funding from the Extra Time Programme is enabling football clubs and trusts to provide really valuable childcare options, particularly for families from low-income households who are most at risk of living in poverty.
