David Scott, 33, failed to spot Mohammed and Shamim Rashid as they sat in queuing traffic on a slip-road near Bellshill. Shamim died hours after arriving at hospital while Mohammed passed away from his injuries weeks later.

David Scott, 33, failed to spot Mohammed and Shamim Rashid as they sat in queuing traffic on a slip-road near Bellshill, Lanarkshire .

Emergency services raced to the scene on the A725 in August 2022 and the Rashid's, of Bellshill, were rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.READ MORE: CCTV appeal launched after Glasgow city centre robbery on Hope Street Shamim was in cardiac arrest when the emergency services arrived and had sustained head and spine injuries while her husband also suffered fractures and underwent spinal surgery before his death.

Depute fiscal Paula Wedlock told the court: "Jonathon Bisset noted a white van which had stopped on the road and in front of that was a white car which had also stopped. "David Scott was travelling behind the Rashid's and failed to react to the traffic in front of him and collided with the rear of the BMW driven by Shamim Rashid which collided with the vehicle driven by Mr Bisset."Sign up to our daily Glasgow Live newsletter here to receive news and features direct to your inboxThe court was told tests for alcohol and drugs were carried out on Scott and all returned negative readings.
