The Met Office has issued a 'danger to life' weather warning for Lancashire as Storm Éowyn is set to lash the UK with winds of up to 90mph and torrential rain. The yellow alert for wind covers the whole county on Friday (January 24) from 12am to 11.59pm. The Met Office warns that flying debris, large waves, and beach material thrown onto seafronts, roads, and properties could lead to injuries and danger to life. Damage to buildings and homes, including roofs blown off and power lines brought down, is also possible. Storm Éowyn is expected to pass close to or across the northwest of the UK on Friday before clearing to the northeast on Saturday.

A ' danger to life ' weather warning for Lancashire has been issued by the Met Office as the UK prepares to be battered by Storm Éowyn . The yellow alert for wind covers the whole of the county on Friday (January 24) from 12am to 11.59pm. Traffic disruption and power cuts are expected with wind speeds of up to 90mph in coastal and hilly areas while torrential rain is also expected.

The Met Office said injuries and danger to life could occur from flying debris, as well as large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties. There is a chance that damage to buildings and homes could occur, with 'roofs blown off and power lines brought down'. It comes after forecasters warned of a storm with a jet stream reaching 'extraordinary strength' approaching the UK at the weekend. It is set to strengthen the jet stream with winds of up to 250mph across the Atlantic, and according to BBC Weather, it is set to intensify next week. The Met Office yellow weather warning states: 'Storm Éowyn is expected to pass close to or across the northwest of the UK on Friday before clearing to the northeast on Saturday. Whilst there is some uncertainty in the track of Éowyn, a spell of very strong winds is likely, initially southeasterly before turning westerly, with peak gusts of 60-70 mph inland and 80-90 mph along some coasts and hills (perhaps even higher in a few locations).' The Met Office has also issued separate yellow weather warnings for wind covering much of England as well as Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Spokesperson Andrea Bishop said: 'Storm Eowyn will bring a period of very unsettled, potentially disruptive, weather to the UK through Friday and into Saturday. Pronounced ‘Ay-oh-win’, the system will begin to influence the UK’s weather on Friday, with strengthening winds initially in north-western parts of the UK with accompanying heavy rainfall.' The change to conditions is being caused by a powerful jet stream pushing low pressure across the Atlantic and towards the UK, following a recent cold spell over North America, the Met Office said. The forecaster advised securing loose items outside homes, including bins, garden furniture, trampolines and sheds, and gathering torches and batteries in case of any power cut. Those travelling in this “disruptive spell of weather” are urged to be cautious, as road, rail, airports and ferries are likely to be affected. Another area of low pressure could bring further wet and very windy weather across the UK by Sunday. There is the potential for further weather warnings over the weekend and throughout next week, the Met Office added
