The alert covers large parts of Lancashire, including Leyland, Chorley, West Lancs, Darwen, Blackburn, Accrington and Rossendale
Flooding and travel disruption is expected in parts of Lancashire following hours of torrential rain.
It comes after much of the county saw some bright sunshine in recent days following warmer than usual weather over last weekend. Forecasters have also warned that much cooler temperatures will hit the region in the coming days with highs of 13C on Friday and then 10C on both Saturday and Sunday. The Met Office weather warning reads: "Rain, heavy and persistent at times, will move northeast across much of England and Wales during Thursday night and Friday morning, with some drier spells following across southern and eastern England for a time. It will also become windy with gusts of 45-50 mph inland and as high as 60 mph on some southern coasts.
