Crunch vote over leisure and sports facilities

Top West Lancashire councillors survived a 'no confidence' vote by opponents regarding the future of swimming pools in Skelmersdale and Ormskirk .

Outside, some pool protesters gathered again, although in smaller numbers than in October. They included the Ormskirk Otters swimming club. 'Never known anger like this' OWL Coun Adrian Owens, who put forward the 'no confidence' motion, said: "This reflects the wishes and opinions of local residents. It is local people who elect us and who we should listen to.

'Consultant spending' Regarding Carl Coughlan, Coun Owens claimed: "Residents have lost all confidence in him. He has consistently taken a he-knows-best approach, refusing to listen to other political groups or involve them in cross-party working groups. As a result, the council has spent more than £1.7million in the past 12 months on leisure consultants, much of it on two new leisure centre designs which are now deemed unaffordable.
