A Blackpool hotelier is alleging that Lancashire Constabulary issued a Community Protection Warning based on false information and mishandled his complaint. Brendan O'Rourke filed a complaint against the police after receiving the warning for alleged dog fouling outside his property, which he denies. The complaint has been ongoing for 17 months and is now being investigated by the Professional Standards Department at Lancashire Constabulary.

Lancashire Constabulary has been referred to its own in-house standards department in a row over dog poo .

A CPW is issued to anyone who may be "causing persistent detriment to the local area" before a decision to issue a more serious Community Protection Notice is made. "We have now improved our administrative processes in relation to Community Protection Warnings to ensure a fair and transparent process in future."

A spokesman for police and crime commissioner Clive Grinshaw has confirmed to LancsLive that the issue is an ongoing matter with the Professional Standards Department at Lancashire Constabulary. The commissioner's office said it would therefore not add any further comment at this stage.
