Lancashire Police have issued a statement after a pervent, found guilty of six sexual offences in Blackburn, was jailed for 24 years.
Robert Garrity, 67, of Brandy House Brow, Blackburn was found guilty by a jury following a trial at Preston Crown Court on Friday, December 15. Garrity was found guilty of three counts of sexual activity with a girl under 16, one count of rape of a girl under 16 and two counts of rape of a woman over 16. The two victims were both teenagers at the time the offences took place.
Lois Turner, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Child Protection Team, said: “First and Foremost, I want to praise, and thank Garrity’s victims for the incredible bravery and resilience they have shown throughout the trial, verdict and sentencing. 'Garrity’s actions were despicable, and I welcome the sentence handed down on him last week. Given his age, he will likely spend the rest of his life in prison. 'I hope that Garrity’s victims can now move forward and continue to rebuild their lives.

Criminal Gang Conceals Cocaine in Cheese, Jailed for Over 40 YearsA criminal gang operating out of Blackburn have been jailed for more than 40 years after concealing large amounts of cocaine in cheese. Lancashire Police raided a unit at the Old Fire Station in Blackburn and found a £17.2 million haul of cocaine. The unit belonged to 46-year-old Saleem Chaudhri, who had hidden the large amounts of cocaine inside blocks of Gouda cheese. The drugs - imported from Belgium - were due to be distributed around the United Kingdom. As the investigation continued, police identified that 28-year-old defendant Rieddul Mohabath was directing couriers to Blackburn to pick up large quantities of cocaine. Following the arrests of Chaudhri and the courier, enquiries showed that a second courier left Blackburn and headed back towards Mohabath’s base in South Shields.
