Lancashire County Council has received a £1 million grant from the Local Authority Treescapes Fund by the Forestry Commission to plant hundreds of new trees across the county. The grant will fund the planting of 965 trees and 24,000 saplings, including the creation of 16 Miyawaki Micro-woods, each containing 1,500 trees and shrub plants.
These micro-woods will be planted across Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Burnley, Hyndburn, Preston, and Fylde, serving as a method to restore non-woodland areas impacted by disease, aging or habitat degradation. Councillor Shaun Turner expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing its potential to absorb carbon faster and improve the county's environment
