A village to house 300 to 400 men and their families who worked on the dam was created, but the construction village in now gone and all that remains are the dam and the causeway. Usually, this particular one when full, covers an area of about 192 hectares; the equivalent of 500 football pitches. Dramatic shots from Foulridge reservoir at Colne, show a similar situation to that in the heart of the Ribble Valley.
Their statistics also state that by 2050, some rivers could have between 50 and 80 per cent less water during then summer and temperatures could be 7.4 degrees hotter. Risk of flooding is also increased where seven per cent more water is held for every one degree increase in temperature.
