So lovely, even when it's dull outside
The low, grey clouds lingered above, releasing the kind of dreaded drizzle that gets you throughoughly wet through in minutes. Yet Hurst Green still managed to look gorgeous in the gloom.
It is effortless to imagine Frodo and friends scurrying down the cute paths to the magical stone cottages, with a smouldering orange glow coming from the windows, fairy-lights twinkling and wood-fire smoke billowing out of the chimney. The rain gives the slate roofs and fallen leaves a warm shimmer, while the river is dramatic and angry, crashing over rocks following the heavy rainfall. A fictional world right there in real life.
Historic Stoneyhurst College, a private and prestigious Roman Catholic boys' boarding school is a tremendous building and set in stunning parkland and surrounded by two huge ponds, which were excavated in 1696. The college also has its own museum, which is open for visitors.
