Heavy snow and ice over the weekend caused widespread school closures in Lancashire. Many schools remain shut for a third day as ice warnings remain in place.
A dozen schools across Lancashire will remain shut for a third day due to snow and ice. Schools were due to reopen on Monday following the Christmas break, however heavy snow at the weekend left roads and paths impassable and many have remained shut as the wintry conditions continue. Lancashire is currently under another yellow weather warning for ice issued by the Met Office. It has been in place overnight and is set to remain until 12pm today (January 8).
The adverse weather conditions continues to cause disruption to travel including on the roads, to train services and flights. Nearly 70 schools across Lancashire were closed on Tuesday with Burnley, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Pendle and Rossendale worst hit. Some are still closed for a third day due to snow and ice.
