"There's nothing worse than not being able to go in somewhere because they don't allow dogs," says Tom Coffey who is almost always found with his furry friend, a beagle spaniel Bodi by his side. And now, Morecambe-based Tom is set to combine his love of beer and his pet pooch, with the help of his father Andy, and open his own micro bar and coffee house, which is of course strictly dog-friendly.
"I love going anywhere that will welcome me and my dog and we have made sure Coffey's is secure including outside, so there is no chance of dogs them getting out." The venue will have two distinct guises - by day, from 8.30am to lunchtime, it will run as a coffee house serving hot drinks and cakes from Brew bakery in Lancaster before transforming into a micro bar in the evening until 10pm. There will be background music, which micropubs don't tend to include and Tom will stock treats and biscuits for customers' doggy sidekicks.
Tom said: "Matt Jackson and and Phil Simpson at Lancaster Brewery couldn't have been more supportive and helpful. They've been sharing their contacts they use for pubs and hotels and were fine with me leaving as long as I was going on to better things.
