A landslip near Gobowen, Shropshire, has caused significant disruptions to train services between Shrewsbury and Chester. The line remains closed, with trains diverted and rail replacement buses operating.

Network Rail says workers are continuing to deal with the aftermath of a landslip near Gobowen which blocked a Shropshire route. The line between Shrewsbury and Chester has been closed since Saturday - with trains taking via a diverted route between the two stations. The situation has seen Gobowen, Chirk, Ruabon and Wrexham General stations all only accessible via rail replacement bus.

Transport for Wales were initially hoping to reopen the line on Tuesday morning, but a requirement for further investigations means that date has been postponed. The closure was sparked by a landslip of more than 100 tons of earth. Because the earth had fallen onto one track the line initially remained open in one direction, but was shut in both directions on Sunday to allow for workers to safely remove the debris. A further landslip was reported at Gobowen, which means all lines have had to be closed. As a result, trains running through this station will divert between Chester and Shrewsbury, not calling at Wrexham General, Ruabon, Chirk and Gobowen
