Works are expected to be completed in spring 2025
Works are well underway at one of Nottingham's largest roundabouts as it is replaced by a T-junction. The roundabout at the junction of Derby Road Upper Parliament Street, and Maid Marian Way , which has previously been described as"polluted and outdated", is undergoing major improvement works.
The traffic light-controlled junction will also incorporate pedestrian crossings and improved cycle facilities. The changes will see the current middle green space replaced by areas of planting around the edges of the new junction, which will be"safer for everyone". The works, which started on May 7, mean that traffic disruption is expected in the area, with lane closures in and around the roundabout in place. The inner traffic lane of the roundabout is coned off, as well as the offside approach lanes. Maid Marian Way's southbound offside lane is also coned off and the pedestrian crossing at Mount Street will be closed.Pedestrians will still be able to use crossing points at the roundabout.
The junction of Mount Street and Maid Marian Way will also be altered, making it simpler for pedestrians to cross, while traffic will be able to turn right from Mount Street. A new left turn will also be opened on Park Row to allow traffic to head north onto Maid Marian Way for routes heading north and east.
Speaking previously, Nottingham City Council's portfolio holder for highways, transport and planning, Councillor Angela Kandola, previously said:"This is a rare opportunity to transform a polluted, outdated roundabout so that more consideration, priority and space is given to pedestrians and cyclists, as well as improving the junction for vehicles.
