A freighter ship caught fire at a dock located at the Ashtabula Harbor Friday afternoon.

ASHTABULA, Ohio - Ashtabula Fire Cpt. Stephen Chase Saturday morning said 39 people were onboard of the ship, both crew members and ship repair workers. All 39 people were accounted for and uninjuredIt’s the oldest Great Lakes cargo vessel at 81 years old.

Chase said the fire started at approximately 1:20 p.m. and crews completely extinguished the fire at 11:26 p.m. Chase said the fire is under investigation by the Ashtabula Fire Department, the United States Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board .Copyright 2024 WOIO.
