A large teen gathering near the Southgate Market shopping mall in South Loop led to a shooting, leaving a teenager dead and another injured. The incident happened around 7:45 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of West Roosevelt Road near Canal Street.Officers were in the area when shots were fired. They found two victims with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a bank when they arrived on the scene.
A 17-year-old boy was transported to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and neck and was pronounced dead. A 15-year-old boy was also transported to Stroger Hospital. He was shot in the leg and listed in fair condition. Police say there is a suspect in custody and a weapon was recovered at the scene. Community outreach partners were on the scene speaking with the teenagers. Chicago police continue to investigate.
