The popular lunch club collaboration by the two groups is in the running for the partnership of the year title.

A tasty joint project by two Lanarkshire organisations has been nominated for an honour at the prestigious Scottish Charity Awards.

The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories, and allows you to customise your page to the sections that matter most to you.The two charities are among four partnerships from across Scotland which have been nominated for the award, with judges being impressed by their work to provide healthy, nutritious hot meals for community members including older and vulnerable people.

Tuoyo, who is from Nigeria, set up Heart of Africa nearly a decade ago with Kenyan-born wife Caroline and their friend Sharon Keegan, and the social enterprise developed into opening a cafe in Cambuslang in 2019. Along with his food, Tuoyo has also brought Afrobeats dancing to the LDVG sessions, and added: “They all get into it, and we really enjoy ourselves.”

The project was selected as one of the finalists from nearly 500 entries across the 10 categories for the annual awards run by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, which “celebrate the best of Scotland’s voluntary sector”.
