Lifeboat crews and a coastguard helicopter have been deployed in a rescue operation after a report that a boat had capsized off the coast of Larne, County Antrim.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution was informed that a catamaran had overturned about 12 miles off the Larne coast on Monday afternoon. Two all-weather lifeboat crews from Larne and Red Bay RNLI stations are involved in the operation which is believed to be ongoing, an RNLI spokeswoman told BBC News NI.The spokeswoman added that ferry crews who were already in the area have been asked to help rescuers as well.
East Antrim assembly member Danny Donnelly said reports of the incident were "incredibly concerning". "My thoughts are with those involved. I hope they are rescued and brought ashore by the lifeboat services," the Alliance assembly member added.JJ Magee is suspended from the party after an allegation that inappropriate online messages were exchanged between him and a minor.
